Horror: Horror is a genre that is all about causing an uneasy feeling for the viewers. Its meant to scares, shock and cause fear and suspense in the audience.
Mise-en-scene:
Depending om the theme of the horror movie the film usually takes place in a possessed houses, old mansions, some scenes including religious places like The Church. graveyard, attics and basement for their closeted and unsettling feeling,
For psychological horror the scenes might take place in asylums or hospitals.
The props hold importance in horror movies as they set the tone for the movies like dolls, knives, other possessed or old artefacts.
Lighting:
The lighting for horror movies is unusually dark,with flickering lights that cause unease in the viewers. Flickering lights usually means there's an unwelcomed supernatural entity present and signifies danger to the audience.
Sound:
The sound effects for horror movies insist of sudden loud sounds meant to catch the audience off guard for example when a supernatural entity appear for a jumpscare. Door creaking and wind howling sounds are also in these films. Sometimes horror movies use silence to create tension or build up or heartbeat sound to show the characters fear.
Editing;
Horror movies used quick cuts between the scenes to show disruption, chaos and panic. longer cuts when the scene is building up for suspense to show that something is going to happen.
Camera:
Horror movies using pan moments to show what the character was looking. Or pov shots and hand held shots to show what the character is seeing.
