Sanjay leela Bhansali is a bollywood director who"s in known for periodic films. What makes him stand out for me is his aesthetic and musical vision and how he incorporates classical kathack choreography in his films. 

Sanjay leela bhansali is a " perfectionist" said by people who have worked with him. This is seen throughout his films. His periodic films are accurate from the language, culture to the clothes. 
His films are recognisable through their signature lighting and clothes, warm tones of red, yellow and orange are seen throughout his films
Red: He frequently uses red lighting simultaneously to show passion and violence and how they contrast each other. 

Yellow; He uses yellow to show warmth and nostalgia but often shows Royalty or the rich in yellow tones 
This is seen in Devdaas where the Protagonist is seen in Yellow tones and the girl in more red ones, but when she marries another wealthy man she's shown wearing more yellow tones and gold jewellery symbolising her new gained status. 
Orange: He uses warm tones and lighting when the character is reflecting themselves spriritually, especially when their around candles and praying with them. 

His film discography has has many hits but my personal favorite is his 2010 film "Guzaarish" which was a " flop film"  according to box office but its an underrated gem for me. Its about a retired magician who got badly injured in one of his shows and got paralysed because of that. He's tired of being paralytic for over 12 years and appeals to court to grant him mercy killing.
