Representation in Film Openings

Films often reflect real life through narrative and story telling, highlighting social issues and social representation. The reason for portraying representation through media is to show and challenge stereotypes and raising awareness.

Gender Representation

Gender representation is a frequent theme in Media and a sensitive topic which is shown through films and tv shows. Movies contradict stereotypes such as women being emotional, decorative and homemakers  while men being dominant, aggressive and breadwinners. They also highlight the issues of  gender roles to raise awareness for example the movie "Mrs" and "little women".

However filmmakers often objectify women to gain audiences attention which is explained in the Laura Mulvey's " male gaze theory" . And also sets unrealistic standards for men  promoting hypersmasculinity that revolves around the idea that men and always supposed to be dominant aggressive and always need to be the "hero" .

Ethnicity and race representation

he film industry commonly stereotypes races and ethnicity. Asians are usally classified as maths smart and nerdy. Black people as aggressive or athletic. And those are usually side characters usually the main characters friends. They are also used as comic relief characters for example Ned in the Spider-man series.
